We knew it was going to be big, but it’s wild.
In just three days since its release on Nintendo Switch, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom has sold over 10 million copies worldwide. That’s a lot of people currently traversing beautiful Hyrule with Link, MacGyvering hilarious vehicles together and upgrading their power cells.
The highly anticipated sequel to 2017’s beloved breath of the wild became the best-selling Zelda game of all time, according to Nintendo.
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is a delightful blend of daring and familiarity
“In its seventh year, Nintendo Switch’s momentum continues strongly, as demonstrated by this record launch,” Nintendo of Europe President Stephan Bole said in a press release. “We are very grateful for the support from the fans for The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdomand can’t wait to see their adventures and creations as they journey through Hyrule.
tears of the kingdom isn’t quite the fastest-selling game of all time. This honor goes to Grand Theft Auto Vwhich sold 16.5 million copies in three days and was the fastest release across all mediums to reach $1 billion(opens in a new tab) (and it’s also the third best-selling game of all time(opens in a new tab) behind Tetris And Minecraft, and THE best-selling console/PC game of all time).
But tears of the kingdom has even more bragging rights. In Europe, tears of the kingdom is now also the best-selling game on Nintendo Switch and the best-selling Nintendo game on any console.
