Tang Shuo is a Chinese artist currently living in Liverpool, UK. Drawing inspiration from his childhood in the village of Boulder Hill in southern China, his recent work is a journey through his memories of the people and stories he grew up with. “Boulder Hill is not just a physical place name, it is also the starting point of my current thoughts, behavior and lifestyle,” he explains.
After moving to the UK in 2020, Shuo had to adapt to new environments with a new way of thinking, which led him to question the relationship between individuals and society. He explores this question through his practice of painting, using himself as a medium to address themes of profession, nation, identity and alienation.
Most of these works were exhibited in Shuo’s solo exhibition, “Boulder Creek”, at the Ojiri Gallery in London. See more below!
